13. Flurerturm

FlurerturmThe Flurerturm is the last relic from the old suburban town wall or, as it was called until 1575, outer town wall which acted as a part of the ring of walls and enclosed the additions to the town. The outer town wall used to have four gate towers and two round towers (Roß-tower and Flurer-tower).

Master craftsman Reicholt was the architect of the old suburban town wall. Having been besieged in 1634, the town needed a free field of fire and thus the wall was torn down.

The wall’s only part that was rebuilt in 1694 was the Flurerturm named after the town field guard who lived in the tower after reconstruction works were finished. Before that, it was called Charles tower.
