Tracing the life and times of Max Reger

Max Reger was born on March, 3, 1873 in Brand and died on May, 11, 1916 in Leipzig.
As a 15-year old boy, Max Reger composed his first work, an overture in H minor. In 1890, he began studying music in Sondershausen under Professor Hugo Riemann but soon moved to Wiesbaden where he continued studying and began teaching. He and his family moved to Munich in August 1901, and one year later he decided to marry Elsa von Bagenski. Reger took on a teaching post at the Royal Acadamy of Music Art and embarked on numerous concert tours. He was awarded the honorary degree of doctor, and was appointed Aulic Councillor and conductor of the court orchestra.
Leaving myriads of works, he ranks among the greatest masters of music.
In 1899, he composed his “Hymn to Singing” for a male chorus and a great orchestra.
